Cosmetic Second Cedar Lounger
These cosmetic-second loungers are made from parts set aside during production of my regular cedar loungers. In some cases, cutting or machining reveals a hidden knot inside an otherwise clear board; in others, a chip or similar cosmetic imperfection occurs while the part is being made. Rather than discard usable cedar, I set these pieces aside and use them when I have enough suitable parts to build a complete lounger.The lounger follows the same design as my regular model and folds in half without tools for more compact storage.

What To Expect From a Cosmetic Second
The appearance of each cosmetic-second lounger is different. Some imperfections may be small and located on less-visible surfaces, while others may be more noticeable once the lounger is assembled.
The cosmetic differences do not follow a fixed pattern, so the exact marks, knots or chips will vary from one kit to another.
I only offer these loungers when I have accumulated enough suitable cosmetic-second parts to make a complete kit, so availability is limited and irregular.
Same Folding Lounger Design
The cosmetic-second version uses the same folding design as my regular cedar lounger. It folds in half without tools for easier storage and includes the same removable two-slat headrest.
The folding points use shoulder bolts with nyloc nuts so the two sections can pivot while remaining securely fastened. The seating area is also sized to work with many commonly available outdoor chair cushions.
Construction Details
The lounger ships as an unassembled kit and uses the same frame, slat layout and folding hardware as my regular model.
The folding points use shoulder bolts with nyloc nuts, while the remaining hardware includes 305 and 316 stainless-steel fasteners. The parts are pre-drilled and countersunk where required, and all surfaces are finish-sanded before packing.

Finish and Care
The lounger ships unfinished. You can leave the cedar natural or apply the finish of your choice, but any visible knots, chips or other cosmetic marks will remain part of the finished piece.
Left outdoors without a finish, Western Red Cedar will gradually weather to a silver-grey colour, and some surface checking can develop over time.
For customers who want to retain more of the cedar’s natural colour, I recommend Sico ProLuxe Primary Coat RE1 in the Natural tint. This is the finish shown on my regular lounger and the one I use after testing different options on the cedar I mill.
Assembly
The cosmetic-second lounger arrives as an unassembled kit made up of 35 cedar pieces, with full-colour instructions and all required hardware included.
Assembly requires an electric drill, pencil, tape measure, and a 10 mm or 3/8-inch wrench. A seat-slat spacing tool, Allen key and the required driver bit are also included.
