Cedar Wood Adirondack Chair and Footrest Set

Cedar Wood Adirondack Chair and Footrest Set

This set pairs my Western Red Cedar Adirondack chair with a matching footrest designed to support your legs while you sit back and relax. I build both pieces from clear, knot-free old-growth Western Red Cedar, using quarter-sawn lumber I mill in-house for a consistent vertical-grain appearance across the set.

Western Red Cedar naturally varies in colour from one board to another. I select a mixture of lighter and darker pieces so the chair and footrest show the natural contrast and character of the cedar.

Finish and Care

The chair and footrest shown in the product photographs have been stained with SICO ProLuxe Primary Coat RE1 in the Natural tint. I use this finish because it brings out the natural colour and grain of the cedar without covering it.

The set will arrive unstained so you can choose the finish you prefer. I recommend applying a suitable exterior wood stain before assembly to help protect the cedar and slow the natural weathering process.

Assembly

The chair kit contains 34 cedar parts, and the footrest kit contains 14. The parts are predrilled where applicable, countersunk where needed, rounded along the edges and finish-sanded with 120-grit sandpaper.

The kit includes:

  • Full-colour assembly instructions for both pieces
  • Stainless-steel screws and carriage bolts
  • A seat-slat spacing tool
  • A driver bit

You will need:

  • An electric drill
  • A tape measure
  • An 11 mm or 7/16-inch wrench

Chair assembly generally takes between 1½ and 2 hours. The footrest normally takes approximately 20 minutes, depending on your experience and comfort with assembly.

The step-by-step videos below show the complete Adirondack chair and footrest assembly processes.

Made in Canada

I make both the chair and matching footrest in British Columbia, Canada, from clear, knot-free old-growth Western Red Cedar. All of the lumber is milled quarter-sawn in-house, and I build and sand both pieces myself before packing them together for shipment across Canada and internationally.

Shipping

Orders ship within three business days. I ship throughout Canada and to customers in Europe, United States, and other international destinations. Shipping costs are based on the destination, parcel size and weight, and the rate for your location will appear after you enter your address in the cart or during checkout.

The chair and footrest are packed together in one double-walled cardboard box. The packaging is plastic-free: I use small satchels of aromatic cedar chips as packing material, and the remaining packaging is reusable or made from recyclable cardboard and paper.

I ship through the postal system, so please provide an address where your local postal carrier can deliver the parcel safely.

  • As a person with limited time, tools and skills, I found the products I purchased (chair with footrest) very straightforward to put together and Rick provided exemplary customer service when I requested further information on staining the wood etc.
Everything was beautifully sanded and fitted together like a glove.
I found the cedar to be of top quality and the finished result was stunning.
This type of product is NOT something you'll find at a local store; the quality and workmanship will far outlast cheaper imitations.
It's really unfortunate that's there's not more companies out there that provide such a high level of both superior products, prompt delivery and a personal customer service that's second to none.

  • The chairs and footrests are absolutely beautiful. They're comfortable to sit in and blend into the natural beauty of our garden. Assembly does require someone handy, but all the pieces fit together well. We opted to stain and seal ours, but I'm sure natural weathering would also be beautiful. Bonus points for using sachets of cedar shavings as packing material! Less waste and totally reusable to protect woolens from moths.

  • For me, Adirondack or Muskoka chairs are typically Canadian. So buying them from Rick at the Tofino Woodshop in BC was a no-brainer, even though I live in the Netherlands. The red cedar is beautiful and upon assembly the chairs prove to be top quality and reflect the love Rick has for woodwork.

  • Just finished staining the furniture and it looks excellent using Messmer natural oil. Tedious work but great result. People that have seen it think awesome.
The cedar has a nice finish requiring no additional sanding. Fasteners and instructions excellent also. Looking great where we've put them, and I have recommended them as easy to ship and assemble.
