This is a completely end grain, butcher block style cutting board made from Western Maple and Black Walnut. It is solid wood made using food safe, water proof glue, & finished with food safe mineral oil then sealed with beeswax. It sits on 4 rubber feet with grab handles on each end of the bottom, so it is not reversible.
100% end grain board will not dull your knives like a cutting board made from edge or face grain. And when cutting on it, your knife will not cut across the fibers of the wood, so the board will last ages longer than an edge or face grain board. However, the maintenance of these types of end grain cutting boards is more than an edge/face grain board, and to really make it last it will need to be regularly oiled with mineral oil and beeswax, and not soaked in water.
The board will 'move' and you may notice that it warped slightly after you wipe it down, if it was drenched with water. It will flatten back out after it dries. That is why you should never submerge the board in water to wash it, it will warp badly or bow and crack. Simply wipe off to clean.
This board measures 18" X 12" and is 2" thick with 4" grab handles routered in the bottom on each end, complete with rubber feet. Aside from the stripe design, each board will be different in terms of shade and grain. It's just the nature of natural wood.
